Protest held in Yerevan against Matviyenko's visit

Today, a protest was held in front of the Armenian National Assembly building against the visit of Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, to Yerevan, Report informs via Armenian media outlets.

The protest was organized by a group of pro-Western activists led by Arman Babajanyan, the leader of the For the Republic party.

During his speech, Babajanyan voiced anti-Russian slogans. A police representative demanded that participants refrain from using offensive expressions and maintain public order. A verbal altercation occurred between Babajanyan and a police officer, which briefly escalated into a confrontation - the politician's loudspeaker was confiscated.

After this, the protesters continued the action silently, displaying anti-Russian placards.

Valentina Matviyenko is on an official visit to Yerevan as the head of the Russian parliamentary delegation. As part of the visit, a conference on inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Armenian National Assembly and the Russian Federal Assembly is being held.
