Haber Global: Russia can't come to terms with fact - it's weak, and that's its main problem

Russia is one of those countries that cannot come to terms with modern realities, and the reality is that the Kremlin has long lost its former power and influence, Turkish political scientist Ayhan Sari said on the air of the Haber Global TV, Report informs.

"Today, Russia is no longer the Russia of the 19th century or the period after World War II, that is, the Stalin era. This country once had influence, was strong, but today it is no longer so. At the same time, neither Ukraine nor Azerbaijan are what they were during the Soviet era," Sari said.

According to the expert, Russia doesn't yet realize how weakened it has become and lives with the ambitions of the past, which is the main reason for its aggressive foreign policy.

"Moscow is getting weaker and weaker. The latest events in Syria and, most importantly, the situation in Ukraine are an example of this. They started an ambitious war, being confident that they would end it in almost another day. However, the war has been going on for three years now, and Russia has not been able to achieve its goals. Russia's aggressive behavior is explained by the fact that they cannot accept the fact of their weakness. By showing aggression, they are trying to feel strong again. However, this only leads to political mistakes," the political scientist noted.
