Azerbaijan attaches great importance to environmental protection and climate change as an integral part of the national sustainable development agenda, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the RES2026 Regional Ecological Summit in Astana, Report informs.
"Consideration of issues crucial for ensuring environmental sustainability, economic development, and the well-being of our people at the Regional Ecological Summit is extremely relevant and timely. Azerbaijan attaches great importance to environmental protection and climate change, viewing them as an integral part of the national and international sustainable development agenda," Asadov said.
According to him, hosting the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku in November 2024 is the country's most important contribution to consolidating international efforts on key issues of the global climate agenda.
"We are confident that the results of this summit will also contribute to the development of practical initiatives and the strengthening of regional cooperation in environmental protection.
Given the growing global challenges posed by climate change, increasing freshwater scarcity, and increasing pressure on water resources, water security issues are becoming a priority on the international agenda," he said.
Asadov also emphasized that Baku supports Kazakhstan's initiative to establish a specialized international water organization under the auspices of the UN.
