Venezuela officially begins process to withdraw from ICC

Venezuela has made a final decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and has informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Félix Plasencia, the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, said in a post on Telegram, Report informs.

According to Plasencia, Caracas has formally denounced the Rome Statute and begun the official withdrawal procedure from the ICC, following instructions from Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.

Plasencia stated that Venezuelan authorities believe that the ICC's work is characterized by "open geographical bias", disproportionately focused on African and Latin American countries, which harms the states of the Global South.

He also emphasized that Venezuela remains committed to international justice based on respect for state sovereignty and the right of peoples to self‑determination.
