UNCTAD: Global commodity trade rises 12.5%

In the first half of 2026, global commodity trade increased by 12.5% compared to the same period in 2025, Report informs, citing the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

According to UNCTAD's report, the growth was mainly driven by price increases amid disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and concerns over energy supply.

"Global commodity trade reached approximately $13.7 trillion in the first half of 2026, which is 12.5% higher than the same period in 2025. Trade in services grew by 10.5%," reads the document.

UNCTAD emphasized that much of this growth stems not from expanded trade volumes but from rising prices. The organization noted that uncertainty in energy supply and interruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have led to higher energy, transport, logistics, and production costs, significantly impacting the value of global trade.
