Subspecies of omicron variant BA.5 discovered in Finland

A subspecies of the omicron variant of coronavirus BA.5 has been first discovered in the Finnish city of Turku, Report informs referring to RIA Novosti.
“Tyks Laboratories has discovered a subspecies of the BA.5 coronavirus, the so-called South African variant, in southwestern Finland. This is the first case of the South African omicron variant in Finland,” reads the statement.
This variant of the virus was found in a Finnish traveler who returned from Central America, the report says.
