Presidential elections in Uzbekistan declared valid

The turnout in the presidential elections in Uzbekistan as of 11 a.m. local time (GMT+5) was 33.54 percent, Report informs.

According to the CEC of Uzbekistan, more than 6.4 million people included in the voting lists have already voted.

The turnout threshold for recognizing the elections as valid in Uzbekistan is 33%.

Polling stations for the elections opened at 8 a.m. local time. A total of 10,784 polling stations have opened, including 56 polling stations in 39 countries outside the country.

Citizens are given the opportunity to vote until 8 p.m. local time.

The total number of registered voters eligible to vote for the presidency is almost 19.6 million. According to the CEC of Uzbekistan, from June 28 to July 1, some 376,623 citizens of the republic have already taken advantage of early voting.

The presidential elections scheduled for July 9 will be the first after the adoption of amendments to the constitution based on the results of the referendum held on April 30, 2023.

Amendments to the constitution provide for an increase in the term of office of the president from 5 to 7 years.
