Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron’s rating rose 8.5% during the week to 33.5%, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the sociological service Elabe,
Macron’s opponent in the presidential elections, Marine Le Pen from the radical left-wing National Rally, gets 15% of votes. However, Le Pen lost two percentage points in a week, and Jean-Luc Melenchon of the La France Insoumise group gained 0.5 % and came in third with 13%.
The poll was conducted by the Constitutional Council online from March 7 to 8, immediately after the announcement of the final list of 12 candidates for the first round. Some 1,580 residents over the age of 18 took part in the survey. The French presidential election will be held in two rounds - on April 10 and 24.
