Foreign ministers of 27 countries call on Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza

The foreign ministers of 27 nations have called on Israel to take immediate steps to enable the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, warning that civilian suffering has reached “unimaginable levels” and famine must be averted without delay.

According to the European bureau of Report, the statement was endorsed by EU Commissioners Hadja Lahbib and Dubravka Šuica, along with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The appeal was signed by Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The signatories warned that new restrictive registration requirements could soon force major international NGOs to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories, further worsening the humanitarian crisis.

“We urge the Government of Israel to authorize all aid deliveries by international NGOs, unblock the operations of key humanitarian organizations,” the statement read.

They demanded immediate concrete measures to ensure safe and unhindered access for the UN, international NGOs, and humanitarian partners to the enclave: “All crossings and routes must be used to facilitate aid flows into Gaza, including food, tents, fuel, clean water, medicines, and medical equipment. Distribution points must not be targeted, and civilians, humanitarian workers, and medical personnel must be protected.”
