Five migrants die while attempting to cross Croatia-Slovenia border

Five migrants drowned while attempting to cross the Kupa River on the border between Croatia and Slovenia, Croatian police said on Friday.

According to Croatian media, cited by Report, the officer who was first to arrive at the scene helped rescue five people from the water, while the remaining migrants swam toward Slovenia.

No further details have been provided so far.

Croatia is located along the so-called Balkan land route, which migrants use in attempts to reach Western Europe.
