Finland and Sweden restore passenger rail link after 38 years

Finland and Sweden will restore passenger railway services between the two countries for the first time in 38 years, according to Finnish broadcaster Yle.

Starting Monday, trains will operate twice a day between the Finnish city of Oulu and Haparanda in Sweden. The journey will take approximately one hour and 40 minutes.

Passenger train services from Finland to Sweden were suspended in 1988. Railway services in the opposite direction were discontinued in 1992.
