At least 164 people have died in the devastating flooding in Germany.
Report informs citing TASS that such data were presented today by the police in the city of Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate federal state) in the west of the country.
Only in one district of Ahrweiler (federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate), the number of disaster victims has increased to 117. At the same time, as specified in law enforcement agencies, around 749 victims are reported.
At least 46 people died in North Rhine-Westphalia. At least one person fell victim to the disaster in the Berchtesgadener Land (federal state of Bavaria).
Since last week, there have been heavy rains in the west and southwest of Germany, causing devastating flooding. Because of the rains, the tributaries of the Rhine Ahr and Moselle and the small rivers Sauer, Prüm, Niems, Kiel, and Erft flooded the banks. The federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate were mainly affected by the natural disaster.
