Cindy Pollux: France’s colonial policies damaging younger generation

France’s colonial policy is damaging the younger generation of peoples affected by it, Cindy Pollux, a member of the movement Social Freedom and Decolonization of French Guiana, said at the international conference “Neocolonialism: Violation of Human Rights and Injustice”, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), Report informs.

“To obtain a quality education and conditions for finding a job, our youth have to leave their homes for the metropolis. The policy of France is such that young people are invited to the continental part of the country, but are not provided with proper living conditions,” she said.

She noted that people aged 18 to 25 are in their field of vision. “They are promised a bright future, but in reality, they remain unemployed and are easy prey for the state, which takes advantage of them,” said Cindy Pollux.

More than half the country suffers from unemployment, and as a result resorts to drugs, and French Guiana has high rates of drug addiction, she added.
