Bloomberg: IMF mulls opening office in Venezuela

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is considering the possibility of opening a representative office in Caracas, Venezuela's capital.

According to Report, citing Bloomberg, the IMF plans to expand technical assistance to Venezuela, which has begun providing economic statistics to the Fund more actively. The support would focus on strengthening the country's financial institutions, Central Bank, and statistical agencies.

The issue of opening a representative office has already been discussed with Venezuelan officials, though no final decision has yet been made.

An IMF representative told Bloomberg that the Fund is working closely with the Venezuelan authorities. At present, an IMF technical team is already operating in Caracas.
