India: 148 thousand contract coronavirus in a day

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India has increased by 14.8 thousand per day, thus bringing the tally to 425,282, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, at present, 174 387 people receive treatment in the country, 237, 195 people have recovered (9 440 per day), while 13 699 people fell victim to the virus (445 per day). Yesterday, 410,461 new cases of infection were reported (an increase of more than 15.4 thousand per day), while the day before – the figure was 395,048 (an increase of more than 14.5 thousand per day).

According to calculations by Johns Hopkins University, India is the fourth worst-hit country in the number of coronavirus cases, ahead of the UK, Italy, and Spain.

India reported the first COVID-19 case, which originated from China, on 30 January 2020. As of 19 June 2020, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has confirmed a total of 380,532 cases, 204,711 recoveries (including one migration), and 12,573 deaths in the country.
