Modern media literacy goes beyond the traditional understanding and requires a much broader set of skills from journalists and readers, the Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), Alexandru Giboi, said at the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum, Report informs.
According to Giboi, in the rapidly changing information environment, critical thinking and the ability to analyze sources and understand the context have become essential tools.
Giboi also noted that he has been participating in the forum for the third year in a row and each time he sees positive changes taking place in Shusha.
"My first visit here took place about three years ago - then it was the first trip of a group of media representatives to Shusha. It was a completely different place then: tents, warning signs about the threat of mines, and a general feeling of instability. All this left a rather alarming impression. I witnessed it myself," he shared.
According to him, it is important for a modern media professional not only to study topics, but also to be able to observe, independently check and interpret what is happening.
"Today's media literacy is much more than just the ability to read newspapers, listen to the radio, or watch the news on television. Now the information space has become much wider, dozens of sources have appeared - from social networks to blogs and alternative platforms. Therefore, it is critical to develop the ability to filter information, check its reliability and understand who is behind a given message," Giboi emphasized.
