The well-known American author and journalist Thomas Goltz died at the age of 68, Report informs.
Goltz was born in Japan, raised in North Dakota, and graduated from New York University with an MA in Middle East studies. He was best known for his accounts of conflict in the Caucasus region during the 1990s.
The author worked as a journalist in Türkiyy and post-Soviet countries for 15 years. In the books he wrote during this period, Goltz described the events that took place in "hot" spots. The visit of the journalist who came to Azerbaijan in 1991 coincided with the period of political crisis in the country and the Karabakh war. Goltz met with Heydar Aliyev, who was in Nakhchivan at that time, and at the same time visited the frontline. Later, he wrote the book "Azerbaijan Diary" about the Khojaly tragedy, which was published in 1998.
In 2020, he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of ADA University for his contribution to peace and reconciliation in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region.
