US supports demining process in Azerbaijan

The US supports the demining process in Azerbaijan, said Michael Tirre, program manager at the Europe Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the US Department of State, Report informs.

He noted that mines greatly affect the lives of ordinary people and slow down the process of returning internally displaced people. To speed up the return of people to their territories, it is very important to carry out the demining process, Tirre added.

Speaking about his impressions of Aghdam, he noted that there is still a lot of work to be done in this direction.

On March 31, participants of the international conference “Humanitarian Demining and Sustainable Development Goals” arrived in Aghdam, liberated from the Armenian occupation.

From March 31 to April 1, with the joint organizational support of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), a hybrid event on the theme “Humanitarian Demining and Sustainable Development Goals” is being held, which brought together about 120 participants in total from 30 countries, including 20 officials of structures specialized in the field of demining from the UK, Serbia, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Angola, Cambodia, Jordan, Sudan, etc.
