Turkish Parliament issues statement on Khojaly genocide

"What happened in Khojaly is not a historical event, but a bitter reality of our day," the Foreign Affairs Committee of Turkey's Grand National Assembly said in a statement issued on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

According to Anadolu Agency, the report urges the world community to give an adequate reaction to the massacre.

The statement also provides brief information about the Khojaly genocide.

The document emphasizes that witnesses and victims are still alive, and what happened in Khojaly is not a historical event, but a bitter reality of our day.

"We insist that it is essential to give due consideration to the Khojaly genocide and to respond adequately, in line with the resolutions of the international community, the UN Security Council, the OSCE, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It will help prevent the repetition of such massacres, which constitute the darkest pages of human history. We express our solidarity with our Azerbaijani brothers in their just cause. We call to bring the perpetrators of this massacre to international justice. Armenia must withdraw from the occupied lands as soon as possible."

Armenian forces massacred 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 aged people, and took hostage 1,275 others in Khojaly city in Nagorno-Karabakh region. Another 150 Azerbaijani nationals went missing, and their fates remain unknown to this day. 487 people suffered significant injuries or were maimed. Of them, 76 were children.
