Snakes and poisonous insects hinder demining operations in liberated areas

Snakes and poisonous insects are one of the factors that prevent the clearing of mines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, Report informs.

During the nearly thirty years of Armenian occupation, Azerbaijani territories were left unattended, and the lack of cultivation in those areas increased the number of snakes and insects. The most dangerous of them are the Caucasian viper and the black scorpion.

These creatures living in abandoned areas, especially waterless places, are considered extremely dangerous for human life. Although poisonous animals are usually more active in warm weather, they can be found even in winter.

In some cases, minesweepers were bitten by poisonous insects. Despite all these difficulties, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) employees continue to clear the areas from mines.
