UNECE official: SPECA countries can reduce transport costs by up to 30%

Addressing the supply chain problems of countries covered by the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) can reduce their transport costs by up to 30%, Dmitry Mariasin, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), told the SPECA 2023 Economic Forum held in Baku on the topic of turning the region into a global hub, according to Report.

According to him, with this, the railway infrastructure capabilities of the SPECA countries and, in parallel, container transportation will increase 4 times, and the number of containers transported through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route can reach 200,000: “SPECA also raised the issue of document digitization among member countries. This can also increase the volume of cargo transportation.”
