Samaddin Asadov: Azerbaijan may get affected by global drought by 2040

Azerbaijan is among the countries at risk of getting affected by global drought by 2040, Chairman of the Board of the Space Agency (Azercosmos) under the Digital Development and Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan Samaddin Asadov said, Report informs.

According to him, the area of glaciers in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus mountains in Azerbaijan has decreased by 18% since 2017: “Since 1993, the level of the Caspian Sea has decreased by almost 2 meters, while a decrease in water level of 1.5 meters has been observed over the past 5 years. At the same times, 15% of Azerbaijan's territory is under threat of drought."

Asadov emphasized that the Ganja-Dashkasan region of the country is especially vulnerable in this regard.
