Kobakhidze: Anaklia port’s maritime infrastructure construction to start soon

Work on the construction of the maritime infrastructure of the Anaklia port will begin soon, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting, Report informs referring to Georgian media.

He noted that the process of selecting a private partner has already been completed.

“The final proposal was submitted by a Chinese-Singapore consortium, with which, after completion of the relevant procedures, a partnership agreement and a concession agreement will be signed. After signing the contract, a joint company will be created in which the share of the state-owned company of Georgia will be 51%, and the share of the consortium will be 49%. Also, in parallel, in accordance with the rules of the World Bank, a tender for construction work has already been held, and work on the construction of the maritime infrastructure of the Anaklia port will begin very soon,” the prime minister added.

Kobakhidze said that the estimated investment volume at the first stage is $600 million. After completion of this stage, the port will receive 600,000 containers.

“This is a resource for processing 7.8 million tons of cargo. As you know, the construction of the Anaklia port is of great importance from the point of view of the development of the Middle Corridor, as well as from the point of view of the development of the connecting function of Georgia,” the prime minister of Georgia emphasized.
