Georgia and Türkiye confirm readiness for full launch of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway

Georgia and Türkiye have reaffirmed their readiness for the full-scale launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, as announced during a meeting between Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvirivishvili and Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, held as part of the Turkish minister’s visit to Georgia.

Report informs citing the Georgian Ministry that the parties discussed the development of transport infrastructure and the region’s role as a transit hub. In this context, the ministers emphasized the importance of efficient use of transport corridors, including the BTK railway, to strengthen economic growth and regional integration.

They also highlighted priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, such as transport and logistics, civil aviation, and tourism.

The ministers reviewed the progress of major infrastructure projects, including railway modernization, construction of the East-West Highway, development of the Anaklia deep-sea port, and the construction of a new international airport in Tbilisi.
