Eight companies in Azerbaijan interested in seawater desalination project

A pilot project for the production of drinking water through the desalination of sea water will be implemented in Azerbaijan as part of a public-private partnership.

Report informs, citing the Ministry of Economy, that the first stage of the tender announced on February 8 of this year with the aim of attracting potential investors for the plant construction project has ended.

A total of eight companies submitted documents, and the conditions were sent to five of them that best met the requirements of the tender.

By July 1 of this year, the companies will submit proposals, the winner of the competition will be announced and a public-private partnership agreement will be concluded after the evaluation.

The project is planned to be implemented in Sumgayit, the production capacity of the plant will be 100 million cubic meters per year, taking into account the needs of the population and the economy.

Projects to produce drinking water by desalinating seawater are being implemented in a number of countries. Global warming, inefficient use of water resources and ongoing drought around the world have stimulated the active use of desalination plants. In recent years, reverse osmosis technology has been used in seawater desalination projects around the world, including in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Israel, the USA, Australia, etc.
