Currently, Baku has 35 km of bicycle paths spread across 31 streets and avenues. The plan is to gradually extend this network to approximately 100 km, said Anar Rzayev, chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Report informs.
Rzayev made the announcement during a briefing on transport developments in 2024.
He noted that the country has enhanced its legislation in the field of micro-mobility, introducing concepts such as small electric vehicles and small electric vehicle operators, along with improved control measures.
"At present, there are 476 micro-mobility vehicles available for rent in Baku. Of these, 77% are small electric vehicles (scooters), 18% are bicycles, and 5% are electric bicycles. Between September and December 2024, micro-mobility operators received 850,944 orders, covering a total distance of 2,244,302 km," he said.
Additionally, on August 24, 2024, the Apar bicycle rental service and its mobile application were launched. Since then, users have traveled a total of 215,800 km using this service, Rzayev further stated.
