Ambassador: Mexico, Azerbaijan can exchange experience in urban services

Mexico and Azerbaijan can exchange experience in urban services and social programmes, Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan María Victoria Romero Caballero told Report.

According to her, the Mexican delegation's participation in events held in Azerbaijan as part of WUF13 is of particular importance amid preparations for the next World Urban Forum, which will be held in Mexico City.

The ambassador said Azerbaijan always organized major events excellently and that WUF13 was no exception. She said Mexico was very pleased and proud to have its pavilion, where urban programmes and elements of ancient culture were presented.

Answering a question about key approaches to urban policy, Caballero emphasized the importance of inclusive social programmes and housing policy.

She said this concerned housing provision as an integral part of inclusive programmes, as well as care for society and attention to older people, children and women. She added that this was also very important for Mexico and that the country would take Baku's experience and further develop it.

The ambassador also pointed to opportunities for exchanging experience between the two countries in the field of urban services.

Caballero said Mexico City had "Utopias" centres, where women, children and older people had access to various programmes and services. She said this experience could be useful for new urban projects.

The diplomat added that Azerbaijan had structures such as ASAN and DOST, and that possible interaction between them could become a very interesting example of experience exchange.
