General Prosecutor's Office: Prosecution of Vagif Khachatryan proceeds in line with international and national norms

The prosecution of Vagif Khachatryan, who was detained in connection with the Meshali events, is in accordance with international and national norms, Mahir Abbasov, the Head Department of the General Prosecutor's Office, said on AzTV's Main Issue program, Report informs.

According to him, several significant historical and legal developments took place after the 44-day Patriotic War: “Thus, in the criminal proceedings of the Republic of Azerbaijan, persons who committed crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes against our citizens were brought to criminal responsibility, and legal verdicts were issued against them.”

Noting that bringing Vagif Khachatryan to criminal responsibility is in line with international and national norms, Abbasov emphasized that this practice exists in the criminal justice proceedings of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He also said that according to the effective criminal legislation, the statute of limitations does not apply to crimes against peace and humanity, or war crimes.
