Eight Armenian servicemen were handed over to the opposite side, according to Azerbaijan's State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing Persons and Hostages.
It was noted that guided by the principle of humanism, Azerbaijan returned eight service members of Armenian origin to the Armenian side on February 7, 2022. Some of them are the service members who were detained on November 16, 2021, during the prevention of the provocation committed by the Armenian Armed Forces in the direction of the Kalbajar region of the state border.
"In return of this humanitarian step of the Azerbaijani side, the Armenian side must provide the Azerbaijani side with information on the Azerbaijani military and civilian citizens killed in the first Armenian-Azerbaijani war and likely to be buried in mass graves, as well as the location of such mass grave.
"In a video conference initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Macron as the French presidency of the European Union, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan raised the issue of informing the Azerbaijani side about the location of the mass graves of our citizens missing in the first Armenian-Azerbaijani war, and the Armenian side undertook to cooperate in this matter. The issue was supported by the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron," the State Commission said.
