WHO: Omicron variant to help defeat pandemic

The omicron strain of the coronavirus may become a ‘live vaccine’ and help defeat the pandemic, WHO representative in Russia Melita Vujnovic said on the air of Rossiya 24 channel, Report informs

“We really hope that this will be so. But at the moment it is too early to say, because there are not enough patients with omicron for us to talk about this. We must wait at least a week and a half so that we can say for sure,” she said.

Vujnovic pointed out that even if the pandemic can be defeated, the coronavirus will turn into an endemic situation, that is, it will never go away, it will be like the flu, but there will be much fewer cases of infection and, as the expert noted, it will be possible to fight this disease. At the same time, Vujnovic noted that WHO is concerned about the rate of spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.

“A large surge in a short period could lead to paralysis of the healthcare system if there are too many cases. This is what we fear,” she added.
