The World Health Organization expects growth in the number of hospitalizations and deaths due to omicron strain, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.
The UK earlier announced the first death caused by the new strain.
Most countries are still unable to conduct a consistent analysis of the samples of all infections or deaths. Therefore, it is difficult to provide information about deaths caused by definite strains, the press service of the organization said, adding that more detailed information about the severity of omicron is expected in the coming weeks due to a temporary delay between the growing number of cases and the growing number of severe cases and deaths.
The global health watchdog said additional information is needed for the comprehensive understanding of the clinical picture of omicron patients, noting that countries can provide such information by exchanging data on hospitalized patients via the platform of WHO clinical data.
