The UK doctors who created the ZOE COVID app to study data on coronavirus patients have identified several painful skin manifestations of the omicron strain that can persist for several months, Report informs citing TASS.

One of the symptoms of the disease is "covid fingers." Toes may turn red, purple, inflamed, sometimes with rashes and blisters. In addition, patients may have chapped or inflamed lips. Another manifestation is dry skin, reminiscent of eczema, which appears "on the chest and neck - places where the sun's rays fall."

Patients may develop a rash that resembles prickly heat or hives. It covers small areas, usually on the arms, legs, and elbows. Another rash is similar to frostbite - raised purple or red painful spots. Young people often report this symptom.

Previously, experts said the main symptoms of the disease caused by the Omicron coronavirus strain include sore throat, low-grade fever with a low temperature, and muscle pain (myalgia).

On November 26, the World Health Organization designated the strain of coronavirus B.1.1.529, found in southern Africa, with the Greek letter 'omicron.'
