EU vaccination certificate system may start working in June

The system of certificates for vaccination against coronavirus in the European Union may start working in June, head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said on Saturday at a press conference in Porto following an informal meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union and the EU-India summit.

Report informs, citing TASS, that, according to her, a political agreement on certificates could be reached by the end of this month. She added that a quarter of the EU's 160-million population received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

According to her, the European Union intends to vaccinate children and adolescents against COVID-19 and prepare for the disappearance of antibodies in people vaccinated at the first stage of vaccination, so it needs hundreds of millions of new doses of vaccines.

Von der Leyen added that for this reason, the European Commission approved a contract with Pfizer for the purchase of another 1.8 billion doses of vaccine.
