US has principled position on Ukraine

The United States stands up for its principles on the Ukrainian issue, continues to help this country defend itself, including by supplying weapons and imposing restrictive sanctions against Russia, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried said at a media briefing in Baku on June 16, Report informs.

She noted that the measures introduced against Russia and Russian companies have a negative impact on the United States itself. But this is the price for the US principles, Donfried said.

The assistant secretary of state expressed her gratitude to Azerbaijan for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

The US thought that there were areas that could be discussed with Russia, she noted. However, on February 24, Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, Donfried said, adding that there is only one person in the world who can stop the war in Ukraine - Putin.

After this, there is much that can be discussed with Russia, but for this the country must stop the war in Ukraine, she noted.

The US and partners in Europe support Ukraine, and joint sanctions have been introduced for this, she added.
