Russia and United States, as the co-chairs of the Minsk Group for almost 30 years were part of the active process of negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said, speaking during the videoconference discussions of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center "South Caucasus: Prospects for Regional Development and Cooperation."
Report informs, citing the head of state, that, unfortunately, these negotiations didn't produce any result.
"But at the same time, it is also clear, especially now that the relations between the United States and Russia are at a very low level, that issue of conflict resolution was probably the only one issue where Russia and United States had a very active and very open cooperation," he said.
The president also noted that before the pandemic, Baku hosted regular meetings between the heads of general staffs of Russia and NATO:
"They could have selected any other destination. But choosing Baku is a good reflection of the independent foreign policy of Azerbaijan, first of all, and also a reflection of high respect to our country and trust to our country," Ilham Aliyev said.
The head of state also noted that the policy of the United States and Russia towards Azerbaijan has always been stable and predictable, as well as Azerbaijan's policy towards these countries and with both countries, Azerbaijan has relations of strategic importance.
