Chairman of the Turkish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Akif Cagatay Kilic called the upcoming visit of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus a historical event.
Report informs, citing Anadolu, that Kilic was speaking at a meeting with Azerbaijan's parliamentary delegation led by chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties Samad Seidov in Ankara.
He said the first visit of Azerbaijan to Lefkosa would be an important message for the world.
Kilic noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey are looking confidently in the future in line with the principle of One nation, two states. Turkey is proud of Azerbaijan's achievements, the Turkish MP said.
Kilic recalled that five years had passed since the July 15, 2016, attempted coup committed by Gulen's terrorist movement (FETÖ).
He said that on July 15, the parliament would host a memorial event on July 15 - the Democracy and National Unity Day with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, parliament speaker Mustafa Sentop, parliamentary delegations of Azerbaijan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
On the same day, the Turkish parliament building will host the meeting of the parliamentary delegations of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
After that, on June 16, the parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan will pay a visit to the north of Cyprus.
"It will be the first-ever visit of the Azerbaijani parliament to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The delegation will attend an event on the 47th anniversary of the launch of the operation to maintain peace in Cyprus and July 20 - Peace and Liberty Day. The head of the Turkish state will also attend the event. We are grateful to you for this important step. It is an important message to the entire world and another demonstration of friendship and brotherhood of Azerbaijan and Turkey," Kilic said.
