Nadia Tourqui: People of Comoros demand free elections

Fraud and corruption in the elections made it difficult to appeal to the international community. The people of Comoros demand free elections, Nadia Tourqui, a member of the Third Way Collective (C3V) Civil Society, told a conference themed “Illegal occupation of Mayotte island of the Union of the Comoros by France,” Report informs.

"The Comorian people demand free elections, but they face different statuses today. Mayotte has been turned into a colony, and supporters of independence in the Comoros have been expelled and threatened," Tourqui stated. She added that fraud and corruption in elections have made it difficult to appeal to the international community, while sanctions are being imposed on the elite, and intellectuals are unable to voice their opinions.

Nadia highlighted the dire situation in Comoros, with 80% of the population facing poverty and struggling to find food. "Corruption has led to the expansion of poverty, and the number of jobs has decreased further. There are significant difficulties in terms of food, healthcare, and electricity. The situation of the vulnerable population has deteriorated greatly," she emphasized.
