Media plays a key role in spreading Islamophobia and inciting hatred towards Muslims, Director General of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) Muhammad bin Abd Rabbo Al-Yami said in a message to a panel discussion within the international scientific conference on the topic "Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas."
According to Report, the message emphasizes that Islamophobia and incitement to hatred towards Muslims are increasingly manifested in the online space and social networks, where there is often no proper control over content.
According to him, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) attaches particular importance to combating such a dangerous phenomenon as Islamophobia. The director general of UNA noted the role of the media in shaping public opinion, pointing out that in some cases, journalists and information platforms themselves become a source of misinformation and bias, contributing to the rooting of stereotypes about Muslims.
"Media and Islamophobia, unfortunately, often go hand in hand. We are faced with the fact that journalists not only do not fight prejudices, but also participate in the spread of disinformation. As an example, I would like to cite Azerbaijan, which restored its territorial integrity. While many Western media described this as aggression by Azerbaijan against Armenia,” Al-Yami said.
