On February 24, 2022, the EU realized that it had made a mistake when assessing the possible danger from Russia, former Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer said speaking at a panel session within the framework of the 10th Global Baku Forum.
He noted that even after the annexation of Crimea, the EU continued to develop its dependence on Russia. As an example, he cited the construction of the Nord Stream-2.
The sanctions imposed on Russia are necessary and will have an impact in the long term, the former prime minister added.
He expressed hope that he would be able to see at least some of the countries of the Western Balkans in the EU.
