French lawyer: 'Our people are not aware of truth about Azerbaijan'

The French are not aware of the facts, so they should get to know Azerbaijan better, French lawyer Marie Hélène Chaudonneret told Report.

She linked the reason for the non-objective attitude towards Azerbaijan in France to the strong activity of the Armenian diaspora: “The Armenian diaspora in our country is very large and very strong. Historically, there have been close relations between the French and the Armenians. Therefore, the Armenians living in France are the majority. They hold events almost every week and invite us there. The Armenian diaspora regularly spreads lies and circulates information that Armenians are allegedly killed and their villages destroyed. We got used to France protecting Armenians.”

Chaudonneret sees another reason for the non-objective attitude towards Azerbaijan in the fact that the French do not know Azerbaijan well: “The Azerbaijani diaspora in France is very new. For many years, the word Azerbaijan in France has revoked the memories of the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan is very little known in France. Of course, you have well-known and famous people. But there are very few Azerbaijanis among us. It is important to introduce Azerbaijan more closely to the French. They will make appropriate decisions only as a result of this.”
