The historic agreement signed in Washington between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia could only have been achieved under the administration of Donald Trump, who approached the negotiations as a peacemaker and dealmaker, free from ideological constraints, according to Elin Suleymanov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Report informs that, speaking to GB News, Suleymanov stated: "What seems to me is Trump is genuinely trying to bring conflicts to the end. He is a peacemaker and deal maker, in essence, and that's very different from what the others wanted."
According to the ambassador, past US presidents who attempted to mediate the South Caucasus conflict never made the resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan a true priority. In contrast, the Trump administration’s approach was focused on achieving tangible results.
Suleymanov noted that the recent agreements follow the same framework Trump and his team had advocated since his first term, emphasizing consistency and a clear strategic direction.
He further stressed that Trump's peacemaking efforts were guided by the broader national interest, rather than the objectives of a single administration or political faction.
"The United States, benefits from peace, not a particular administration, not a particular special interest groups which dominated the previous discussions, but the United States as a nation, as a major player, actually benefits from peace," he said.
The ambassador also underscored the alignment of US and Azerbaijani interests when it comes to peace and security in the region.
On August 8, a trilateral summit was held in Washington, D.C., involving Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and US President Donald Trump. The leaders signed a joint seven-point declaration and initialed an Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations, marking a major step toward lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
