Azerbaijan is the main trade investor and strategic energy partner of the European Union in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a briefing following a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielius Landsbergis in Vilnius.
He noted that 40% of Azerbaijan's trade is carried out with the EU.
The minister stressed that Azerbaijan's role as a transit country will increase even more with the opening of the Zangazur corridor.
At the same time, according to him, transit through Azerbaijan increased by about 75% in 2022.
The foreign minister noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation is also an important aspect of cooperation.
For this, it is also important to further expand relations between friendship groups within the framework of parliamentary ties, the minister said.
Bayramov recalled that within the framework of his visit, Vilnius will host the 7th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Lithuania and Azerbaijan.
He added that at this meeting, they will discuss a number of important issues on the bilateral agenda and sign a protocol that will determine the practical directions of the future cooperation between the two countries and further enliven economic, political, cultural, energy, humanitarian and social relations between them.
