Azerbaijan needs enhanced international support for its humanitarian demining activities, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov said at a high-level meeting within the framework of the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, according to Report.
"Unfortunately, the extensive contamination of our territories with mines and other explosive devices continues to be a significant obstacle to the successful continuation of our restoration work," Mammadov emphasized.
He noted that since the end of the conflict in 2020, up to 400 Azerbaijani citizens, including civilians, have suffered from mine explosions.
"We once again call for increased international support for humanitarian demining activities, eliminating the negative impact of mines on human rights, and providing assistance in the rehabilitation of mine victims," the deputy minister added.
