Azerbaijan welcomes efforts to reduce tension in Gaza, FM says

Azerbaijan is seriously worried that the situation in the Gaza Strip continues to be tense, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

Report informs referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the minister was speaking at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries held on March 5 in Jeddah.

The minister underlined that Azerbaijan is deeply concerned by the ongoing escalation, adding that continued civilian casualties and sufferings are especially disturbing.

He called on the international community to take concerted actions to prevent further loss of innocent lives and to avoid inflammatory steps.

The minister also stressed the need to ensure respect for the sanctity of religious sites.

"Azerbaijan welcomes the efforts of regional and international mediators to stabilize the tension, provide unhindered humanitarian aid and achieve lasting ceasefire between parties," Bayramov noted.

He added that Azerbaijan firmly supports a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of the State of Palestine, in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
