Algerian rep: Global South NGOs to be able to fight inequality through new platform

Representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society from the Global South gathered in Baku today to create a joint platform to discuss issues of common interest, Matouk Smaoune, a representative of a youth association from Algeria, told Report.

"All those involved will be able to exchange views on issues such as combating inequality, confronting the challenges that threaten our planet due to climate change, and promoting the participation of associations and civil society organizations in contributing to the development of the poorest countries of the South," Smaoune said.

He also believes that this is a good opportunity and a favorable environment to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals through such meetings and discussions.

"Azerbaijan is known as a state that fights for the rights of peoples. We, as Algerians, share the same values, the same principles of non-interference in our internal affairs and fight against inequality. Therefore, we must, as civil society organizations of the Global South, contribute to an effective and efficient fight against the challenges that threaten our planet," he said.
