Qarabag FC becomes official Partner of UN climate initiative

Qarabag Football Club has become an official partner of the United Nations’ "Sports for Climate Action" initiative, implemented under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The club’s press service told Report that Qarabag has joined the Race to Zero campaign, supporting the transition of the sports industry to net-zero carbon emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.

Club president Tahir Gozel noted that this recognition also brings added responsibility:

"Sport has the power to influence society, and we intend to use this influence for the benefit of nature. We are proud to represent the name of Karabakh not only on the football field but also in global initiatives."

At COP29 in Baku, Qarabag launched an alliance of football clubs to combat climate change. The declaration was signed by clubs such as Liverpool, Tottenham, Atlético, Betis, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Udinese, Porto, Flamengo, and Malmö.

The club has committed to reducing carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. It also pledged to publish annual climate reports, submit an action plan within a year, and engage partners in climate discussions.
