Lewandowski matches remarkable Messi feat after scoring against Atletico Madrid

Robert Lewandowski is the first Barcelona player to hit 35 goals in a season since Lionel Messi after the striker scored against Atletico Madrid, Report informs via Goal.

Lewandowski sparked the Barcelona comeback against La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday, scoring a superb volley on the turn to bring the score back to 2-1. His teammates did the rest as the La Liga leaders went on to win 4-2, and now the Polish striker can enjoy the milestone he reached in Spain's capital.

The 36-year-old's 72nd-minute strike moved him to 35 goals in all competitions this term and he becomes the first player to reach that tally for Barcelona since Messi in 2020-21. The Argentine icon, who now plays for Inter Miami in MLS, went on to record 38 goals in what would turn out to be his final season at Barca.

Thirteen of Lewandowski's 22 goals in La Liga this season have come away from home. No other player in the division has more than 10.
