SOCAR: TANAP transported 16 bcm of Azerbaijani gas so far

The Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) has transported 16 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas so far, the First Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Khoshbakht Yusifzade, said on the second day of the conference held as part of the Baku Energy Week.

According to him, 11.3 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas were sent via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) from its inception until May 1 this year.

Yusifzade said that 9.7 billion cubic meters of these volumes were transported to Italy, 1.3 billion cubic meters to Greece, and 0.3 billion cubic meters to Bulgaria.

Natural gas batches are delivered to the Turkish market via the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and TANAP. The first batch of Azerbaijani gas entered the Turkish market via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline in 2007. The transportation of commercial gas to Turkiye via TANAP began on June 30, 2018.

The Azerbaijani natural gas transported to Turkiye is extracted from the Shah Deniz field.

The capacity of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European part of the Southern Gas Corridor, where Azerbaijani gas is currently transported to southern Europe, is 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The TAP AG consortium is considering three scenarios to increase pipeline capacity: limited - up to 14.4 billion cubic meters, partial - up to 17.1 billion cubic meters and full - up to 20 billion cubic meters per year.

TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Southern Italy.

On the first day of the project, which started the flow of natural gas to Europe on December 31, 2020, 10.9 million cubic meters of natural gas was transported to Europe via TAP.
