Muhammad Fadila: Syrian power plants technically ready to receive Azerbaijani gas

Syrian power plants are technically ready to receive Azerbaijani gas, Muhammad Fadila, Director General of the Syrian General Electricity Generation Corporation, said, Report informs via the Syrian agency SANA.

He noted that the power plants are technically prepared to receive Azerbaijani gas after maintenance work on gas transmission networks is completed and the connection to the Turkish side is established via the Kilis–Aleppo pipeline, which is 20 kilometers long.

Fadila emphasized that this project is aimed not only at improving the electricity supply situation in Syria but also carries important strategic, economic, and humanitarian aspects within the framework of efforts to restore the country and strengthen stability.

Meanwhile, Khaled Abu Day, Director General of the Syrian General Corporation for Transmission and Distribution of Electricity, stated that the implementation of the project is expected to increase the daily electricity supply in various Syrian provinces to approximately 10 hours per day starting this coming Saturday.

The energy ministries of Türkiye and Syria announced yesterday that official deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Syria will begin on August 2, 2025, through the Kilis–Aleppo cross-border pipeline. This step is part of a tripartite cooperation agreement between Syria, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.

According to Syria’s Ministry of Energy, under the agreement, about 3.4 million cubic meters of gas per day will be supplied from Azerbaijan for the operation of gas-fired power plants. This will increase electricity generation by 700–900 megawatts.
