Kimberly D. Harrington: Azerbaijan, hosting the COP, is setting an example for other oil and gas countries

Hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azerbaijan is setting an example for other oil and gas countries by harmonizing energy security and climate issues, Kimberly D. Harrington, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Energy Resources, said Thursday in a meeting with Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov in Baku, Report informs.

Harrington visited Azerbaijan to participate in the 10th meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 2nd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, which will be held in Baku on March 1.

At the meeting, satisfaction was expressed over the continuation of the long-term successful energy partnership between the two countries. The role of the Southern Gas Corridor in ensuring Europe's energy security during the energy crisis was noted, and the current situation regarding the expansion of this project was reviewed.

Shahbazov noted that Azerbaijan is currently taking important steps in the energy transition, in addition to expanding the project and providing additional supplies. It was reported that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, strongly supports reforms in the energy sector and the development of renewable energy. The implemented green energy projects, the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor, are indicators of Azerbaijan’s commitment to the energy transition.
